Chapter and verse is written on product but on the back of 2 decades of delivering products and solutions in different capacities this is how I see things.
- WHO – Know your audience. What’s the demographic of your (potential) user base. Are you building for b2b or b2c. Or both? Do you have to support administration. Integration into 3rd parties are also a who!
- WHAT – Understand the problem space. what are your users trying to achieve. What data underpins it all.
- WHY – Know your numbers. Understand the metrics and user base. Don’t boil the ocean to shift something by 0.01%. Gut instincts can’t be ruled but to have evidence to justify when asked.
- WHEN – Understand your market and the adoption curve. Are you too late to the party? Do you need to pivot with the approach?
- WHERE – Meet your customers where they are today. They need to come on the journey with you. The adoption and acquisition process needs to be simple enough to make it easy to get them onboard. For data, where does it come from. Where is the system of record.
- HOW – I believe you need the 5W’s identified first before starting here. Having spent 15 years in the solution space it was a hard transition to product but rewarding to go through these before the design & solutioning kicks in.
