Things that matter when developing a Product / Solving a Problem (a subset…)
– The problem you are trying to solve – getting the North Star set and clear to everyone involved then checking in regularly against the North Star and make sure you’re not deviating away from it.
– Identifying and validating the outcomes that you are aiming for, and being able to quantify them to some degree (faster, smaller, bigger, less, more etc.)
– Aiming high but not letting great be the enemy of good. Know when to stop improving a feature.
– Eliminate waste wherever possible.
– Communication in all directions.
– You win and lose as a team – finger pointing is not going to help.
Things that don’t really matter (in the grand scheme of things)
– How you get there (what flavour of agile you chose) and the “points” you allocated.
– Meetings for the sake of meetings (spontaneous discussions are often more valuable and productive, just make sure the conclusion is noted).
– Process for the sake of process (box ticking).
This is my own personal experience having seen both ends of the spectrum and the results it can produce.
