“Known unknowns” are that grey area which causes the most trouble in digital transformation.
This is Dromore Lough in Co. Clare on the South West coast of Ireland. My 9 year old niece was wanting to paddle in and get one of the water lilies. It looked shallow enough to her, but the benefit of height and experience allowed me to warn her that it was far too deep to do that.
I didn’t know exactly HOW deep it was – but judging by how the water went dark very quickly beyond the rocks, it was clear that the risk was not worth the reward.
Known unknowns can exist all over the place in technology projects.
Being prepared for them, having them documented, red-flagged, and if necessary have some contingency plans (always need at least a plan B!) for if/when they manifest is NEVER a bad thing.
A plan B is never a failure.
