Tech for the sake of it

I’m a huge fan of technology. New gadgets come out, I’m always having a nose (much to my wife’s dismay – “we don’t need it!!”).

AI is already involved in many areas of our lives although with varying degrees of success from the end user perspective. Chatgpt is my go-to for most questions, coding suggestions or ideas….

As a child growing up in the 1980s, the science education books were full of self driving electric cars, air taxis etc.

So far, my experience with modern cars is limited to hire cars. My own car is 12 years old and I still love to drive it. It’s been “tweaked” a little, so is something of a sleeper.

Auto braking
Lane departure warning/intervention
Radar cruise control

These all sound good in principle – gadgets!

But for me, the first two have nearly caused accidents on multiple occasions, none of which would have even been an event without them and the latter just sees cars with brake lights on and off all down the motorway causing more problems.

Maybe, I’m missing the point of them and the “safety” perspective overrules anything else.

But from a pure product perspective and the outcomes they deliver, I’m not sure…..
