The dragline silk produced by a spider has a tensile strength comparable to a top grade alloy steel. Some are able to stretch several times their length without snapping. I noticed this beautiful web whilst waiting for a tram in Manchester this morning. The dew making it stand out otherwise I’d have missed it.
Whilst not pleasant to walk into and get all over your face, the web, the engineering and the science behind it is incredible.
Many spiders can produce different kinds of silks for different purposes, some sticky to catch flies, others for pure strength and more for their stretchiness.
I think some of the properties here are ones that align to being a Product Manager.
🕸️ You have to have a strong capable core and personality.
🕸️ Sometimes you will be stretched to your limits. By people, processes and problems. Knowing your limits and managing accordingly is critical to prevent you from snapping.
🕸️ You need to have multiple skillsets. Be purposeful in each one.
🕸️ Even simple/”boring” subject matters when viewed independently can look good in the final product. Not an excuse for a dull UI.
🕸️ Sometimes you need support from other things to make you and your product shine. But that’s no bad thing!
